I only use Pentana Risk Browser. Will I be affected?
Any user that only uses Pentana Performance Browser will not be affected by the changes to Java. You can continue to use the application without needing to change.
Do I need Java to use Pentana Risk?
We have a ‘ Classic only functions’ document that outlines functionality only available with Pentana Risk Classic. Users can use this to see whether or not you require Classic. if you find the answer is no, then you can simply carry on as you were, using Pentana Risk Browser. If you find that you do require access to Pentana Risk Classic this can be facilitated with the new .exe version of the Classic application.
The .exe version contains within it everything the Classic application requires to run, meaning you do not need a standalone Java download. If you are interested in the .exe solution, please see our ‘exe FAQ’ document which explains in greater detail how this works and how you activate this for your site. Please note, use of the .exe download is completely free.
Can I continue to use Java?
If you decide that you would prefer to continue as you are you may only use Java versions 7 or 8. Bear in mind that unless you pay for a Java subscription you will not receive any updates for Java 7 as Oracle will also stop providing public updates and support for Java 8 in January 2019.
