The following article is a guide to creating Combined Queries which outlines some of their uses.
When setting up Queries, you have the option to add a filter called 'Combine with other Queries'. This filter will take the results of the current Query, and add, intersect or remove results from other Queries depending on which option you select.
Things to Remember
When working with Combined Queries in Pentana Risk , there are a few things to bear in mind:
- No more than 5 Queries can be Combined together
- You can't combine a Combined Query with other Queries
Include the Results Of
This operation will take the results of the current Query, and add the results of the selected Query. For example, take all PIs at Red status and add all PIs that are due for update.
- Firstly, we’ll need to create a PI Query to find all of our PIs that are due for update.
- This PI Query pulls through a single PI that hasn’t been updated since November 2013.
- After this, we will need to create a PI Query to find all PIs at Red status.
- This PI Query pulls through a single PI that is at Red status.
- The final step is to add a Combine with other Queries filter. This filter is found under Add Filter > PI > Combine with other Queries. When prompted to add a Query, search for the PI Query the finds PIs that are due for update. Be sure to select the Include the results of Operation.
- When we run this, you can see that the PI at Red status is found, and the PI that is due for update is added to the results. This is because the results of the All PIs due for update Query, is being added to the results of the All PI's at Red & due for update Query.
Intersect with the Result Of
This operation will take the results of the current Query, and only show those that also appear in the results of the selected Query. For example, take all PIs at Red status and only show those that are due for update.
- Firstly, we’ll need to create a PI Query to find all of our PIs that are due for update.
- This PI Query finds three PIs, two of which are at Red status, and one that is Green.
- After this, we will need to create a PI Query to find all PIs at Red status.
- This PI Query pulls through three PIs that are at red Status.
- The final step is to add a Combine with other Queries filter. This filter is found under Add Filter > PI > Combine with other Queries. When prompted to add a Query, search for the PI Query the finds PIs that are due for update. Be sure to select the Intersect with the results of Operation.
- When we run this, you can see that the two PIs shown have Red status, and are due for an update. This is because the results of this Query are being taken and compared against the All PIs due for update Query. The PIs shown in the Results tab, are those that are found in both Queries
Remove the Results Of
This operation will take the results of the current Query, and remove the results of the selected Query.
Find PIs that have a Red Status and are due for Update
- Firstly, we’ll need to create a PI Query to find all of our PIs that are due for update.
- This PI Query finds three PIs, two of which are at Red status, and one that is Green.
- After this, we will need to create a PI Query to find all PIs at Red status.
- This PI Query pulls through three PIs that are at red Status.
- The final step is to add a Combine with other Queries filter. This filter is found under Add Filter > PI > Combine with other Queries. When prompted to add a Query, search for the PI Query the finds PIs that are due for update. Be sure to select the Remove the results of Operation.
- When we run this, you can see that one PI is being shown. This PI has a Red status, and is not due for update. This is because the results of this Query are being taken and compared against the All PIs due for update Query. Any PI that is found in both Queries is removed.
Identify Unassigned Items
- First create a query to find all items that have at least one owner. Select ‘+ Add Filter’ and then under the Ownerships section, select one of the Ownership categories to use. For this example, we have a PI Query and are looking a the Administered by Ownership. In the add Users Screen, add every User and Role to the filter which can be done by selecting the double arrow icon.
Please note going forward you will need to add any new Users or Roles created to the Queries filter.
- Secondly, you will need to create another query which will be the one that shows Items without an Owner. Select ‘+ Add Filter’ and then the ‘Combine with other Queries’ filter on the first section. Next add the query, we just created to the filter and change the operation to ‘Remove the results of’. This will then show any items which didn’t meet the requirements for the first Query we created.
Every item then shown in the Results tab will be any item that does not have a User or Role in the Administered By Ownership.
