This article covers some of the Terminology and Jargon used by members of the Helpdesk and other Guides on the Support Portal. You can use the 'Ctrl + F' keyboard shortcut to open a search bar and find any specific wording throughout the article.

- Actions
- Charts (for Portals)
- Feedback
- Performance Indicators
- Policies
- Reports (generation only)

- Online Help - Web-based help for Browser and Classic. Can be accessed by selecting the Help icon in the top right corner of the application.
- Classic - http://classichelp.pentanarpm.com/
- Browser - http://browserhelp.pentanarpm.com/index.html
- Support Portal - Web Portal used to raise and view Support tickets and access help guides.
- Notebook - The name given to the detailed view of a topic item in Pentana Risk, which holds all information relating to that item for viewing and editing. In Browser, this view of an item will take you to a new page, and in the Java version this view opens next to the items' list.
- Folding Panel - Sections in Pentana Risk that expand to reveal their data when selected, such as the Ownerships section for any item. In this way, they minimise the amount of space that multiple fields will take up, and organises these fields by type and purpose.
- Filter - Refers to the tools available to the User which affect what items are shown in a list page in Pentana Risk. These tools are found on all item list pages; an example of a filter would be the one for Status, found on most lists in the application.
- Linked Item - Items from different or the same module linked to one another.
- Owners - Those users who have been given direct possession of an Item. For more information please see What are Ownerships in Pentana Risk?
- Visibility - A User who has the ability to view an Item in Pentana Risk, either though permissions or Ownership. 'Giving a User Visibility' is commonly referred to as giving a User 'Also Visible To' Ownership of an item as it is not related to any permissions.
- Inherited Ownership - This describes an Item that hasn't been given directly to a User, but one that has been given to them by the system, either through the User belonging to a Role, or by them having ownership of the 'parent' of the item, as can be the case for Actions and Risks. They can be told apart from normal ownerships as they are grey in appearance when viewed in a list, and they can't be removed from the item directly, but through whatever method they received this ownership in the first place.
- Permission - Permissions are given to Users and Roles and used to control access to data, and to enable certain features and functions. For more information please see: http://browserhelp.pentanarpm.com/permissions.html
- Complex Permission - Permissions that only take effect when the User with that Permission is within the required Ownership. For example, the 'Actions_update Assigned to' will only apply when the User with that permission is in the Assigned to Ownership.
- Site Admin - A User with full administrative permissions who can perform any action on the system. Some site-wide settings can only be accessed by Users with this Permission.
- Site Setup - Site and module settings only accessible by Site Admins.
- Trigger - A tool used to notify Users, by email, that updates are due to be made to certain items in Pentana Risk. For more information, please see What are Triggers and how do they work?
- Deactivate - The action of deactivating an item in order to hide it from the view of normal users. Deactivated items appear with a strikethrough and no longer show as requiring an update. Deactivated Users cannot log in.
- RAG Status - The Red, Amber or Green status shown on an item.
- Tree Structure (Actions and Risks) -
- Root - An item which sits at the top of a tree of the same items. It can be described as not having a parent, while having children. These items are the first ones that are seen the first time a Browse page is opened, and have tree-row-open icons next to them.
- Branch - An item within the middle of a Tree. It can be described as having both a Parent and child item.
- Leaf - A item which sits at the bottom of a tree. It has a Parent and no children
- Customer field - A bespoke fields that can be added to your Site upon request. For more information see: What are Customer Fields?
- "Re-stringing" - This is a task that can change the wording on the site. For example, for a risk "likelihood" and "impact" on the matrix can be changed to "residual". These changes can only be done by a Pentana Risk Support member.
Browser
- Browser - The Web-based version of Pentana that is accessed via an Internet Browser such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.
- GoTo Menu - It is visible on every page, up in the top left-hand corner. You can use the Go To... menu to quickly get to any page in the application. There are also quick searching features on most sections and shortcut buttons to quickly create new items such as Actions, Risks and Feedback items.
- Search List - Searching for items from any Module in Pentana Risk will show the results in this layout. These pages provide the most key information and functionality needed to keep Module items up to date. Though the contents and even the appearance of the Search pages may change for each Module, the same content sections are included throughout.
- Browse page (Actions, Risks and Documents) - For Module items arranged in a Tree structure, this shows all Module items in their order of hierarchy. These pages provide key information needed to review the status of the item, and keep it up-to-date.
- Home Portal - This is the Portal that you, the User, sees upon logging into Pentana Risk.
- Custom String - Almost all Text or String within Browser can be renamed.
- First Tab - The First tab that appears in a Modules Notebook. The name of this tab and its contents can be customised by a Site Admin.
